Semakau Landfill is expected to run out of space by 2035, but everyone can play a part in extending its lifespan by practising sustainability. If reducing and reusing are not viable options, try upcycling!
Singapore has designated 2019 as the Year Towards Zero Waste. We are working towards becoming a zero waste nation by reducing our consumption of materials, and reusing and recycling them to give them a second lease of life.
Our Mission
Educate students on the threats against our natural environment.
Eligibility
Primary School Category
Students studying in local primary school in Singapore as of date of competition.
Secondary School Category
Students studying in local secondary school in Singapore as of date of competition.
Empower students to repurpose items using waste materials.
How to Participate?
In your schools, form a group of (min) 2 to (max) 4
Design an upcycled product out of MEIJI items
Submit write up report (incl. 5 photographs) of the product design
Upload a 20 to 30-seconds video on Instagram (tag @terravillage)
Promote waste reduction, sustainability efforts & practices amongst students.
Encourage critical design thinking & creativity amongst students.
