Our unique species...
In 2021, fireflies no longer than five millimetres were discovered in the Nee Soon Swamp Forest and were later identified as a new species called Luciola singapura, the first species of its kind found in Singapore in 112 years. Such discovery shows that little creatures like these are thriving in a highly urbanized country like Singapore.
The sightings of such beautiful creatures inspire us to protect them in the hope that our children and grandchildren will continue to see them fluttering about. To protect the millions of unique species on this land, it is imperative that we implement sustainable practices not just environmentally but also socially and economically.
