On The Edge: A Dialogue with The Untamed Paths

Our next stop is… the beach!

Did you know that there is a part of our shoreline that is teeming with life? This lesser-known area is called the “intertidal zone” and is home to many species of animals - including clams, starfish, crabs, anemones and snails! But the species in this intertidal zone are threatened by human activities. What actions can we take to conserve our intertidal animals? And how can we care for them when we’re out visiting the beach?

Join us for a hearty dialogue with The Untamed Paths, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness on unconventional biodiversity in Singapore. In this hour-long online session, hear from Mr Dennis Chan, founder of The Untamed Paths, on the intertidal zone, the quirky attributes of some amazing creatures we can find along our shores, and what we can do to play our part in wildlife conservation for this zone. Sign up below to secure your spot for this insightful session!

This session is happening online on Sat, 5 June via Zoom at 2pm. The Zoom link will only be sent to registered participants, so pre-register your interest now!

About The Untamed Paths

“The Untamed Paths was conceived in 2020 with the goal of raising awareness of unconventional biodiversity in Singapore. We take pride in the experiential learning process and strongly believe that common misconceptions about wildlife can be corrected if presented properly. We strive to strike a balance between education and conservation - to nurture the budding wildlife naturalist, whatever the age. Singapore is rapidly evolving and this has also led to an increase in human-wildlife conflict over the years. Amidst the Covid pandemic, it is ever so important to maintain a cohesive relationship between humans and wildlife.”

About the Speaker

GOPR0898.jpg

Dennis was never one to take the conventional route - hence the birth of “The Untamed Paths”. His adventurous lifestyle has led him along the path of a veterinary bioscience student and even into the intricacies of business marketing. An accomplished divemaster, he has had a hand in regional marine conservation work involving thresher sharks, reef restorations and underwater surveys. When not under the ocean - he spends his days and nights out in the field observing and acquiring knowledge on local biodiversity. A big fan of wildlife, he has visited various rescue centres in Sumatra and Borneo to get a better understanding of human-wildlife conflict in rural areas.

Dennis is also an avid wildlife photographer, powerboater, mountaineer and advocate for sustainable fishing - it is no secret that all the elements in his life are intertwined. Being immersed in wildlife is second nature to him.
