How to create your Ecobrick?
Introduction to Ecobrick
There are 25 trillion pieces of disused plastic debris in the ocean and every day, many more enter our environment and the ocean.
We are all well aware of the state of plastic pollution in our oceans and how incorrect disposal and treatment of plastic can be harmful for wildlife and to human lives.
There is a way to reduce the amount of plastic being thrown into our environment. Simply spend a couple of minutes a day to build an create your own eco-brick and there is the potential of solving a top global problem.
So what are Ecobricks?
Ecobrick is a simple, low-tech solution to our disused plastic. Without the need for machines, special skills or capital, ecobricks enable us to take personal responsibility for the plastic that we’ve consumed by keeping it out of industrial systems, securing it out of the environment, and putting it to good use in modules and earth constructions.
It is a PET bottle packed solid with clean and dry used plastic, made to a set density to create reusable building blocks. By packing the bottles with a set density, it makes them suitable building blocks for virtually any construction. They can also be packed with other non-biological un-recyclables that, uncontained, are toxic to the environment (i.e. styrofoam, wires, small batteries, etc.). Ecobricks can also be used to make modular units, furniture, and earthen gardens and structures.
Ecobricking is a both an individual and collaborative endeavour. It unites people across class, age, economy and continents around the shared intention of caring for the local and global biosphere. The personal ecobricking process raises awareness of the consequences of consumption and the dangers of plastic. The collaborative process gives individual and communities an hands-on experience, involving them in sustainability and the need to protect our world.
Steps to create an Eco Brick:
1. Get your plastics ready, Save, Segregate, Clean & Dry Plastics
2. Choose a bottle that is commonly disposed of in your community
3. Prepare your stuffing stick
4. Pack the bottle tight, mixing the plastics as you fill the bottle up
5. Use the eco brick to build modular furnishings
Why Eco Bricks can be beneficial to our environment?
Ecobricks secure Plastics from Contaminating the Biosphere and disrupting the ecosystem
Ecobricks Save Plastic from Incineration & Sequester CO2
Ecobricks Empower Households, Communities, Companies & raises ecological consciousness
Ecobricks can be put disused plastics to use again
Ecobrick Modules
The easiest, fastest, and perhaps the most fun Ecobrick application, is to make Milstein modules for horizontal building and Dieleman modules for horizontal building and Dieleman modules for vertical building. With these modules, you can create benches, table, chairs and more.
