EcoBytes Ep 2 - The Sustainable Diet ft. OsomeFood
In the second Episode of EcoBytes, we speak to Mr Jason Fong, the founder of local sustainable food brand OsomeFood, to discuss what it means to eat sustainably. We learned that the act of consuming meats such as beef can have a significantly more harmful effect on our planet that consuming plants, as more carbon dioxide is generated when animals are raised and eventually slaughtered for the meat that we consume. Fortunately, there are ways to combat the harmful effects that our diets have on the planet. Singapore is considered the second most vegan-friendly city in the world, according to PETA. While we know of the beneficial effects of a plant-based diet on our planet, is a plant-based diet enough to meet our nutritional needs?
According to Mr Fong, it is very possible for plant-based diets to meet our daily needs. Mr Fong had spent more than seven years working in the field of therapeutic food, researching the effects that food can have on our health. After seven years, he started his own brand, OsomeFood, that creates food products that not only helps to boost the consumer’s immunity, but also reduces its impact on the planet. He brought up an astonishing fact: if 10% of us consume less fish in our diets, we can prevent the deterioration of the marine ecosystem for 30 years.
Finally, Mr Fong took us through two simple vegan recipes that we can use the next time we’re hungry! Bon Appetit!
