EcoBytes Ep 4 – Plastic-Lite Lifestyle ft. Plastic-Lite Singapore
In the fourth episode of EcoBytes, we’re circling the conversation to one infamous material that is harming the planet: plastics. According to NEA, a whopping 949,300 tonnes of plastic waste was thrown out in 2018. This poses is a major problem for us as our excessive use of plastic is negatively affecting our environment and health. But how does the excess use of plastic affect us? By 2050, there could be more plastics in the ocean than fish by weight! Furthermore, with our only landfill, the Semakau Landfill projected to run out of space by 2035, the impact brought by the excessive use of plastic is set to aggravate.
In this episode, we speak to Shalini, the publicity lead of local volunteer group Plastic-Lite Lifestyle on the actions we can do to reduce the plastic waste in our lives. Shalini shared with us some useful tips and even showed us how we can upcycle plastic items to give them new life instead of throwing them away!
