THE SAVE OUR STARS (S.O.S.) ASTRONOMY CLUB
The director of Saving The Dark, Sriram Murali, will be discussing this film and his other works related to light pollution during this dialogue.
Hear from experts in the field of astronomy at the Save Our Stars (S.O.S.) Club online astronomy dialogue session! A speaker from The Astronomical Society of Singapore (TASOS) will provide an introduction to astronomy and explain the impacts of light pollution on astronomy today. Representing The Astronomical Society of Singapore (TASOS) to conduct the dialogue session is Akash Anandh, one of TASOS’ management committee members.
The dialogue session will also feature guest Sriram Murali, film-maker, amateur astronomer and the director and producer of “Saving The Dark”, a documentary on the impacts of light pollution. In this dialogue, Sriram will share more about how he uses his films and photography to raise awareness of light pollution. He will also be sharing short snippets of his film.
About Akash Anandh
Akash Anandh is an Astrophotographer and Amateur Astronomer, based in Singapore. He’s a management committee member of The Astronomical Society of Singapore (TASOS). He is also a Research Collaborator on Astrophotography with Eco Astronomy Sri Lanka. His work has been published and featured in various astronomical organizations and media such as the European Space Agency, Space.com, Earthsky.org, Canon Singapore, BBC, Straits Times, Channel News Asia, etc., to name a few. His photograph was featured in Space.com’s Top 100 Space Photos of 2016.
Akash conducts Astrophotography Workshops in Southeast Asia and India, specifically Lunar, Milky Way, and Wide Field Deep-Sky Photography. He also conducts outreach events and gives talks on Astronomy-related topics.
Outside of Astronomy, he is a writer and creative director in Advertising & Marketing.
About Sriram Murali
Sriram Murali is a filmmaker and an amateur Astronomer. Being passionate about Astronomy and the night skies, he took it upon himself to raise awareness on light pollution through filmmaking. He is best known for his viral videos on light pollution, Lost in Light and feature Documentary, Saving the Dark.
While these pursuits are his hobby, he also works full time as an analyst, fighting abuse of various Google products.
